to vote for mitt romney would be, because you think the republican party has become too extreme and needs to move to the middle. i think this should be self-evident, but apparently, it's not. in the past few weeks, i have heard a number of people who are in the middle of the road politically say they have started to support romney, not because they like today's republican party, but because they think he's different from it. one that's on my mind this week is "the des moines register's" endorsement of romney. it made national news. iowa's a key state and "the register" doesn't usually back republicans. the paper's rationale, because he worked with democrat when he was governor of massachusetts, and therefore, will do the same if he's elected president. i think that's the wrong way to think about a romney presidency, though. because if you want to know how he'd govern, all you really need to know is which party he represents today. and that would be the republican party. and what are the priorities of just about all of the leaders, activists, interest groups, and elect officialed tha

press, gm and chrysler, romney is wrong. republican presidential candidate mitt romney has broadened his attack on a barack obama's auto industry restructuring, implying a general motors used aid to hire more workers in china than the united states. it goes on to say that gm quickly defended its performance and said that romney is wrong on this. and here is the wall street journal on that story. even as mr. romney and mr. obama canceled a political appearances tuesday, the two campaigns -- escalated a heated exchange over mitt romney suggestion that the president also bailout had benefited china. he returned to pennsylvania in hopes of returning the momentum. the story wall street journal goes on to talk about that many have come out including those in the auto industry to say that the governor was wrong on this ad, that he is running in the state of ohio. we will talk about that more in about 10 minutes when reid wilson of the hot line joins us to talk about october surprises and all things campaign 2012. democratic caller, go ahead. caller: i think one of the things people are not

romney victory rally. there were plenty of photo-ops for the republican nominee, as well. romney has just a few days to get his message out. he hasn't been consistent in the past, so now what does he do? as for president obama, he's canceled his campaign events today and tomorrow. instead he will survey damage in new jersey alongside republican governor chris christie. he needs to show the country that government works and government resources are important and when a big disaster strikes, you need the federal government to step in and work with state and local governments. now is the time for the president to show true leadership and i think he is and according to one republican and romney surrogate, he is. chris christie has praised the president's efforts but had a little patience for a fox news question about a possible photo-op with mitt romney in the days to come. >> we hear that perhaps he's going to -- mr. romney may do some storm-related events. is there any possibility that governor romney may go to flj to tour some of the damage with you? >> i have no idea nor am i the lea

republicans are more enthused with mitt romney and against the president than they have been all year, still a lot of enthusiasm for president and it is common if you go out to any of the president's events and you have seen events four years ago it is effortless to say this isn't like it was four years ago. but power years ago was off the charts. >> rose: yes. >> there is still a lot of enthusiasm for the president. if you look at the economy, the president shouldn't be in this race, and a big part of the reason he is in the race is governor romney had some question fish, deficiencies but a big reason he is in the race is tens of millions of americans love this president, think he a has done a great job and are determined to see him reelected. >> rose: rather than those who have the different tact, they expected more, unhappy about the results, but i am not yet convinced they want to not vote for him because they are unsure about the other people person? >> that's a big group too but if you are talk about the people going to rallies and at the phone banks and killing themselves

right now, close obama win, close romney win or big romney win and if you talk to some republicans, both connected to the campaign and one step away from the center of the campaign they are starting to talk about the possibility and you see in the republicans movement into pennsylvania, minnesota, and perhaps michigan the possibility that they are not just trying to hedge their bets or trying to expand the map out of desperation but a real belief this thing could be bigger, an oregon polls that show the shows the race close, certainly closer than the president won four years ago i think the momentum is with romney and the obama people are not just spinning when they say, look, out of that first debate in denver he doesn't have momentum where he overwhelmed us he brought home the base be does president's in number has not chanced by any means but pretty pistol hid and that means governor romney has upward momentum or has had it, maybe that has stalled we don't really though but the president does not have bad momentum he is not collapsing in any way, i think that the momentum in thi
